Succulent Australian Steaks at Pepper Steakhouse and Bistro

Enjoying the food

Located at Great World City, Pepper Bistro and Steakhouse offers carefully sourced, premium Australian steaks and classic Western favourites. Reminiscent of a Western steakhouse, the ambience is warm and cosy with comfortable black leather chairs and wooden furniture.

Pepper Bistro and Steakhouse is part of The Quayside Group which also owns The Pump Room and Quayside Seafood Restaurant.

Crispy blue swimmer crab cake

The food is generally good though some of the dishes tend to veer towards the salty side. For starters, I like the crispy blue swimmer crab cake ($12)  which has a nice, crunchy exterior with juicy bits of crab meat. The crab cake lay on a bed of refreshing, tangy mango salsa which enhanced the taste with hints of sweet notes. The snow pea sprouts on top also added colour to the dish.

Pan-seared scallops

The pan-seared scallops ($12) were dexterously prepared with a lovely brown crust and a tender, creamy interior and were accompanied with mesclun salad, sage and burnt butter. Tantalising but slightly salty.

The lobster bisque ($10) was creamy and luscious with a smoky crustacean flavour but it was way too salty and I found it impossible to finish it.

Grass fed black angus ribeye

For the mains, I like the signature grass fed black angus ribeye 200grams ($34) which was succulent and flavourful. It was prepared by rubbing with smoked sea salt and freshly crushed white and black peppercorn. The steak was served with thick-cut fries and a choice of red wine, Tasmanian bush pepper, mushroom, rosemary, horseradish, hollandaise, mustard or béarnaise sauce.

For something healthier, go for the grilled cod ($36) accompanied with baby spinach, creamy mash and shiitake mushroom sauce. The flavours are well balanced, oozing heartiness in every bite.

Legendary sticky date pudding

The meal ended on a pleasantly sweet note with two commendable mentions, the legendary sticky date pudding ($10) and chocolate lava cake ($10).

Chocolate lava cake

The former was devilishly decadent and flawlessly executed with rich butterscotch sauce, candied hazelnuts and vanilla bean ice-cream while the latter was immensely satisfying with crusty top and a rich, chocolatey and moist interior. The well-composed flavours would satiate the taste buds of even the most discerning connoisseur.
