Lavish Festive Buffet at Carousel

With Chef Robert Mak and the service staff

Carousel is a restaurant which is close to my heart. This halal certified buffet restaurant, located at the lobby of Royal Plaza on Scotts Hotel replaced Café Vienna about eight years ago. Mr Abraham Tan, F&B Manager and former Executive Chef and Chef Robert Mak were my ex colleagues at the Marina Mandarin Singapore Hotel.

Enjoying my meal

Stepping into Carousel evokes a sense of nostalgia, making me reminisce the good old times when Abraham, Robert and I used to work together. The feeling of familiarity, the convivial ambience and the friendly wait staff always make me feel at home. Therefore, I was glad to have made the decision to celebrate Christmas at Carousel this year.

The interior

Over the years, Carousel has established a strong foothold in the F&B dining scene. The restaurant was voted the Best Buffet Restaurant in Singapore at Asiaone People’s Choice Awards for the sixth consecutive year, a testament to its popularity.

The Sashimi and Sushi station

Carousel offers global gastronomy, aiming to delight the palates of diners. You’ll be spoilt for choice by the diverse array of culinary choices ranging from Mediterranean, Asian, Japanese to a lavish seafood spread. The restaurant has several live stations including teppanyaki, sashimi and sushi, chicken rice, carving, pasta and Indian stations, making your dining experience an interactive one.

Seafood on ice

My favourite part of the buffet is the seafood on ice section which features fresh prawns, slipper lobsters, scallops, mussels and clams.

Poached salmon

The huge poached salmon is also one of the items that I enjoyed most. I also love the sashimi and sushi station offering salmon, tuna and octopus sashimi and assorted sushi freshly prepared by the chefs.

The carving station

During this festive season, you can indulge in roast turkey and beef with condiments and sauces and Yorkshire pudding.

Song and dance item by the Carousel team

During your meal, be enthralled as the waitresses perform a song and dance for the guests. You'll also get to be photographed with Santa.

Chef Robert preparing the paella

The main highlight of the festive buffet is the massive paella prepared by Chef Robert Mak. It is fluffy, fragrant and flavourful and is generously topped with lobsters, prawns, mussels and squids. I had three helpings of the paella as it is simply delicious.

The pasta station

The pasta station is also a hit with many diners as they can select their choice of pasta with various sauces such as cream, tomato and aglio olio.

The Indian station

If your palate is inclined towards spicy food, you will love the Indian station which offers squid chatpata (squid with onion, tomato and hot spices), mutton seek kebab (smashed mutton with a melange of herbs and spices), basil ka macchi tikka (red snapper, ginger garlic and yoghurt with fresh basil), dhal baghara (yellow lentils with garlic, onion and dried chilli) and more.

Other popular favourites include gratin of eggplant and zucchini with parmesan crisp, braised winter brussel sprout with beef bacon and roasted chestnutpotato galette and sweet silver onion, crispy butterfly chicken with white spicy, lemak sauce and wok-fried black pepper prawn with bell pepper.

Flourless chocolate cake

No meal is complete without desserts. The bevy of festive treats such as flourless chocolate cake, green tea mousse with azuki bean, red velvet cake, berry diplomat cream, pistachio and raspberry financier, crème brûlée, chocolate mousse rice pudding, Christmas fruit cake, panettone and stollen promise to satiate your sweet cravings and conclude your meal on a sensational note.

Festive dessert

The buffet is priced at $60++ per adult during lunch and $38++ per child on New Year’s Eve and $98++ per adult and $55++ per child during dinner. On New Year’s Day, it is priced at $68++ per adult, $40++ per child during lunch and $83++ per adult and $49++ per child during dinner.
